After unveiling some intriguing tracks on Bandcamp and through eye-catching video clips on Youtube, plus some compilation appearances and remix collaborations, Belgian solo-project KILMARTH releases today the “Catharsis” EP digitally and as a self-released limited EP with bonus tracks.
If KILMARTH stands above all for modern cinematic dark electronics, “Catharsis” reveals a wide palette of influences ranging from dark ambient and some RAISON D'ETRE, HECQ, LUSTMORD pads and atmospheres to more upbeat songs like the opening track, the very BURIAL or APPARAT oriented "InkrapinbbaN" with some (post-)dubstep and grime accents here and there. But we also notice traces of Belgian EBM DNA on "Bãsadatrark" (in a new version), some IDM à la MNEMONIC, ARCHITECT, HAUJOBB or DELERIUM in "Shondell Discipline", or even a pop touch à la ROYKSOPP on "SpinDLE" up to pure hybrid dark techno / electro / d'n'b mélange on "l'Antre du Minotaure". The EP even takes a more introspective turn and widens the sonic spectrum with the almost jazzy "AlprA (feat. ARSENE L) with its original combination of edgy sounds melted with a harmonious sax.
Rich in eclectic diversity and poignant atmospheres, “Catharsis” leaves many doors open to an unpredictable cinematic electronic future seen through the very own intimate prism of Cedric Wattergniaux aka KILMARTH. A Belgian project that will please followers of labels in the likes of Hymen, Ant-Zen, M-Tronic, Cold Spring and other Cryo Chamber.
A noir and touching sonic journey leading us to the origins of KILMARTH where the heroes of Daphne du Maurier are time-travellers… Music is a journey. Music is a dream. Music transports us. Music unites us.
